I have recently acquired a Maclean bicycle and am trying to ascertain its age. it has a Resillion cantilever front brake and a Sturmey Archer 3-speed gear. There are two numbers stamped under the bottom bracket casing, CR 23 and 129. Any ideas as to its age? Thanks.

Hi, I know Maclean were around in the 30's and 40's so if a Sturmey AW from 37-41, then it might not have a date on the hub, some did, some just said patent applied for and some said patent.  In the 30's most of their hubs used a single digit date code, for example a hub marked K5 was the K series (three speed hub) from 1935. I guess when they went into the 1940's they realized their flawed logic.
