Model General Information

This is a 1984 frame, Serial # A338-525. The frame is built from Ishiwata 019 double-butted chrome-moly tubing (.8/.5/.8) main tubes, except for Ishiwata 022 (.9/.6/.9) down tube.  Head tube is Ishiwata 019 (1.0), fork blades are Ishiwata 019 (1.0), and chainstays are Ishiwata 019 (.8).  Handcut and thinned Tange Champion lugs, Shimano EF fork ends and droputs, Ohtsuya investment cast bottom bracket, 3Rensho investment cast (offset) fork crown, and 3Rensho investment cast seat stay caps.  Fork and crown are fully chromed (under repaint).  Frame size is 52.5, and the angles are 73/74.

This frame was repaired and repainted by CyclArt in 1991, after UPS-caused damage to the top tube.  CyclArt replaced the top tube with the right Ishiwata tubing and added new (different) top tube cable guides; they also added a chain hangar on the right seat stay, the second set of bottle bosses on the seatpost, and the pump boss on the head tube.  The decals are original, but for the championship stripes. I also had the rear dropouts chromed, and decided to have the original fully chromed fork blades painted as shown in the pictures, but we left the trademark 3Rensho offset fork crown chrome.  The paint job is their top level, equivalent to their current Cat. 1 (at the time it was called Cat. 2, because Cat. 1 was reserved for a custom artwork scheme).  CyclArt painted the Silca frame-fit pump to match the frame, and the Campy pump head has red feet (screw thread covers).

Component build is original Campagnolo SR/NR, with some changes.  The front and rear brake cables are GoreTex RideOn and the derailleur cables are braided stainless steel (Teflon or nylon liners are used in the Campy rear derailleur stainless steel housing and under the bottom bracket cable guides).  The handlebars are a Nitto Dream Bar (44) with a Nitto Pearl stem (105); tape is Scott white kraton rubber underneath Benotto yellow tape, with chrome end plugs.  The Campy component bolts have been replaced with stainless steel  hex recess fittings, and all engravings have been filled with black paint.  Chainrings are TA (42x51 for the 144 bolt circle), the freewheel is a Dura Ace 7400 6-speed, with a Regina America SL hollow-pin chain.  Pedals shown are Crank Brothers Ti (original Campy SL pedals and SL clips are stored).  Seat is a Selle Italia Turbomatic 3 (manganese rails, embroidered stitching, and elastomer mounts).  The wheels shown are the third set I've had: Phil Wood 32-hole, 120/126, with DT double-butted spokes (cross 3) and Mavic Open Pro silver rims, with Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX 25c tires.  Bottle cages are from Velocity (they're adjustable on their mounts).

The purple frame is an later Super Record Aero (A658) which appears after the previous frame, but is the second iteration of the Aero model.  It is distinguished from earlier models by fastback seat stays, gusset between chain stays, Campagnolo vs Shimano ends, aero fork. Smaller frames did not have the aero mount shifters.  Componentry was whatever customer desired.  This one was originally built with Campagnolo C-Record.
