| Model General Information |
In 1969-70 Western States Imports created the Centurion brand name for a line of bikes they were having made for them in Japan. In 1984 WSI introduced the Centurion Comp TA (Competition Tri-Athlon) model designed to appeal to the growing tri-athlon market. B.F. Goodrich owned the Comp TA trade name and WSI was forced to change their model name. In 1985 the Ironman Dave Scott name replaced Comp TA.
The 1987 Ironman Expert Dave Scott bikes where made in magenta with a yellow head and seat tube and a Red and White combination. They had the "new wave" fashion look associated with the Miami Vice TV show that was popular at the time. The 1986 model called the Ironman Dave Scott model was equipped with a Shimano 600EX gruppo and had 6 speed index shifting with 126mm wide rear dropouts. The 1987 Ironman Dave Scott came in 2 models, the "Expert" which was equipped with the new Shimano 105 gruppo and the "Master" which continued with Shimano 600EX components.
All of the Ironman Models were made with Tange Champion #1 tubing, The fork was different between the Master and the Expert. along with the rest of the componentry. 7 Speed was introduced on the 1988 Master (Shimano 600 Ultegra) and the 1989 Master (Shimano 600 Ultegra) and Expert (SunTour GPX).
The bikes geometry were well suited for triathlons. which is why they were so popular in the triathlon market segment. It wasn't til years later that the Triathlon bike became more of a Time Trial bike than a Road Bike.

In 69/70 Centurion was started as a brand of WSI, they were Importing bikes from Japan and labeling them as Centurions, a few years later they would introduce the Professional model which was made by Acer-Mex (same company that made Windsor Bicycles). which continued on til the late 70's when production of the Professional was moved over seas. in the mid 70 Centurion offered BMX bikes and quickly changed the BMX line to its own brand as Diamond Back in 1978 and in the early 80's sold Mountain Bikes. Most all of the models were made in Japan and some lower end models were made in Taiwan.
though one model was actually made by Cinelli for the US market in 1985, named the Cinelli Equipe
The Centurion name was dropped some time in 1990, and were rebranded as Diamond Back . for the first couple years these road bikes, declared on the frame graphics that it was "Designed by Centurion"
