General Information
The 851 was an enhancement of the similar model 801, introduced a few years earlier: black, hard-anodized plates, white pin strip around the edge of the jockey cage. For the rest, the design is identical  to the 801: carved, 'Mavic' engraved outer plate (later versions of the 801 and 851 -between 1985 and 1989 have a flat outer plate).

Brand Information(click to expand)
Mavic is best known for its lightweight aluminum rims and complete wheels, which they continue to produce today.  They also produced a full range of drive train components in the past.  Mavic made a failed attempt to popularize an electronic shifting system in the early 90's.
