The Sylan is similar in design and appearance to Campagnolo Record pedals.  It has an aluminum body, aluminum cages riveted in place, and a steel axle (English thread 9/16 x 20tpi).  Pedal installation and removal is via a 15mm wrench or 6mm hex key.  The threaded metal dust cap is removable (with a special wrench) for overhauling and adjusting the ball bearings.  There are three basic models; Road, Track, and Touring.  The Road model has a one-piece cage with the upturned "quill" on the outside.  The Track model has separate front and rear cage plates. The Touring model has a wider 3-5/8 inch "Rat-Trap" style (serrated) cage for the widest of feet.

The bearings usually feel rough straight out of the box.  The factory uses a very modest amount of a clear, lightweight grease.  Many people will prefer to repack the new pedals with a more generous amount of their favorite grease and adjust the bearings for a smoother spin.
