General Information
Huret introduced their Alvit rear derailleur in 1959 and the Alvit front derailleur in 1961. By 1965 Huret had sold more than 5 million sets of Alvit derailleurs. Alvits were still being made until 1985. They were quite respected in some circles and graced millions of Schwinn bikes during that period. In the US a lot of low quality Bike Boom bikes came equipped with Alvit derailleurs which helped establish a bad reputation. The front Alvits went through a lot of minor changes and worked reasonably well when used with  good quality well lubricated cables.
