Lars Zebroski was a member of the US Olympic Cycling Team in the 1960 Rome Olympics. He was also a member of the San Francisco Bay Area Pedalli Alpini racing team. After the Olympics he stayed on in Italy and raced with Italian amateur teams. When Lars returned to the US in the early 60s, he started building frames in the SF Bay Area under the Paragon marque. He continued do so through the mid 1960s. During that time he and another local cyclist built somewhere between 150 and 300 frames.
This was probably one of his early frames. Someone resprayed it red, hand lettered and pin striped it. A friend has a set of original Paragon decals... Eventually I hope to talk him out of them.
This frame is made of light gage Reynolds 531 tubing with Nervex Professional lugs and bottom bracket shell with Campagnolo dropouts without eyelets. It has an old style 66mm wide BB shell with British threads.
It rides and handles like a classic British Time Trial bike rather than Italian racing bikes from that era. It's stable and responsive with no hint of twitchiness. The light tubing makes for a comfortable ride but it's laterally stiff in the rear.
The 3TTT bars and stem are original to the frame. The rest of the component are period correct for the early 60s.
