History
Smith & Co was started by Ivar Smith and Robert Jacobsen, in 1894 in Odense, Denmark. The company started selling hardware, but quickly gained interest in the sale of bicycles.
In 1905 they started their own bicycle production, at the Grand A / S bicycle factory, then assembled at the factory of Smith and Co. in Odense.
They managed a lower price than their competitors (63 kr. instaed of 88 kr. in 1906) without losing quality, design and good construction.
In 1948 SCO bicycle had produced one million bikes and started to sell abroad with demand in India for "Rickshaws" that were used to transport people, adapted from the "Long John" model used originally to transport grocery.
In 1974, professional cyclist rider Peder Pedersen became world champion in sprint in Montreal and beat the world record in 1000 meters and SCO bike. SCO released a true copy of the model he used, with the same combination of colors and the rainbow trout.
