Brake cable has a nipple at both ends; note the lack of a cable pinch bolt on the brake caliper arm. The brake cable adjuster came as part of the brake cable housing/cable assembly, and is not threaded into the unthreaded caliper arm cable stop; its threads are for the adjuster nut.
