Campagnolo Record 1052/NT (1978 - 1982, 3-hole narrow band)RRR8202/07/2026 05:20 AM
Good question/comment JAKE. I would put it this way: "This was the last generation of the (Nuovo) Record front derailleur" - except for the Campagnolo Nuovo Record 0104007 (1982 - 1987, 3-hole standard band) version that came after it! Details of which are to be found linked above.
Williams C1000VeloFello5402/03/2026 08:51 AM
After WW2 there was a world shortage of nickel and the British government restricted the use of this metal until well into the 1950's.As chromium plating is porous it is dependent upon plating of copper & nickel (triple plate) or just nickel before the chromium in then plating process. During the nickel shortage many makers plated directly onto steel (including frame makers - hence the 'swiss cheese' perforated chain stays !) and rust would develop very quickly under the plating.
Williams C34VeloFello5402/03/2026 08:45 AM
Williams probably made more chain sets than all other manufacturers combined from 1920 to 1960. These can be numbered in the millions. The crank shape of C34 changed over time from 1918 to 1939 which can aid dating. Their reputation is affected by the very small numbers of failures which in percentage terms was extremely low. There are many other designs including Chater-Lea, Granby and others that had a much higher failure rate.
B & T Components Ltd (Bantel) ManxVeloFello5402/03/2026 08:38 AM
B&T Manx brakes were launched in 1947. In design terms they were way ahead of the competition. Whilst the levers were very stylish the callipers were rather ugly. This may be why they did not sell very well and as a result a very rarely found today. It is unlikely that they were still made after 1950.

Just for the record, Villiers mainly made two-stroke motorcycle engines rather than complete motorcycles; also engines for lawnmowers, karts and so o n.
NitorRadiator01/27/2026 08:59 AM
Second pic is kind of wrong as it shows a Cinelli saddle with round rails. The Nitor Unica had flat rails to suit the seat post.
Cinelli Unicanitor Mod. 50Radiator01/27/2026 08:57 AM
@grumpus Thank you for clarification. That was my understanding. It seems everybody believes Cinelli inveted the polymer saddle. To my knowledge Nitor did. I think Cinelli took over Nitor and kept producing the saddle.
Cinelli Unicanitor Mod. 50grumpus01/27/2026 06:49 AM
@Radiator It is the original Unica-Nitor version, which was produced in association with Cinelli. Later models were badged as Cinelli, with the name Unicanitor. Unica means "unique" while nitor is a Latin verb meaning "to rest on", a fitting description of the first mass produced polymer saddle.
Lyotard 45CAcloverleaf01/27/2026 04:20 AM
Apparently there are at least 2 versions of the 45CA, I got two. One, that seems the older style, is all steel (406g in my scale). The second, pictured here, has steel body and alloy cage (my set weights 311g).
SunTour LD-1500 Power Shiftercooperativebicycling01/23/2026 01:25 AM
Note that if you have the ratchet resistance set too low, then the shifter will tend to rebound back to the closest low position in the ratcheting mechanism. Be wary of setting the non-normal limit on derailleurs (H on front, L on rear) because of this. If you don't watch closely you may think its set correctly but it was actually the shifter rebounding. If you're using these to shift something with a particularly strong spring, the amount you may have to tighten the mechanism to avoid this might make the shift effort on the up throw very high.
