General Information
LJ stands for Lucien Juy, the founder of Simplex. The LJ 1000 is the model on the lower end of the LJ Series which itself is the mid range model series between the SX series and SLJ Series. It is also very similar to the LJ 4000 except the metal parts which were significantly heavier with the LJ 1000 as tehy are made from steel instead of aluminum alloy. Earlier Models had a riveted logo on the front plate whereas later LJ 1000 had glued badges. The model assignment "CP" stands for "Course Professionelle" dedicated for racing. The jockey wheel cage is mounted to the lower knuckle bolt in the middle between the wheels. This reduces the capacity (and better adapts to lower sloping racing freewheels) as compared to the "T" (Touring) Models where the wheel cage is mounted higher to the upper jockey wheel (see LJ 1000 T for comparison). The model presented here, does not have the plastic chain guide on the upper (lead) wheel. It was also available in a "grand touring" or "Grand tourisme" (GT) version with long pulley cage and larger capacity. As well, like with nearly all models one could choose between Simplex special bolt array (designed for threadless Simplex dropouts attached with screw from inside the frame) or for standard dropouts including hanger /claw for axle.
