Suntour XCD 6000

Rear Derailleur: XCD 6000 RD-XD00-GX gray "knuckles" with Suntour XCD 6000 printed on a black link

Front Derailleur: XCD 6000 FD-XD00-GX Suntour XCD printed on the body, black body and clamp

Shifters: SL-XD00-CH, index/friction rear, steel handlebar clamp, large covers on the levers also see brake levers for brake shift lever combination

Hubs: XCD 6000 HB-XD 10 (nutted front and rear, 36 holes, freewheel style, 126mm or 130 mm rear)  or HB-XD00 (quick release hubs, 36 holes, 126mm or 130mm rear, freewheel style)  all hubs have small  XCD  graphics, small flange, sealed cup and cone bearings, gray color and cro-moly axles

Brakes: XCD 6000 BA-XD00 roller cam, internal coil spring instead of the bow spring, brake pad is height adjustable, grey  finish with XCD stamped roller plate also available is the BA-XD10 cantilever brake by Dia Compe, grey finish, external spring design

Brake Levers: XD 6000 BL-XD00 still a large motorcycle style lever, reach adjuster, , coated lever blade, black (uses the same body as the 9000 series, no coating on the blade and minor hardware differences) also available was the CL-XD01 which incorporated the index thumb shifter onto the brake lever body, 6-way shift lever position adjuster, index/friction right shifter (same basic design as the 9000 except with the 6000 shifters)

Crank: XCD 6000 CW-XD00, grey finish, triple chain rings, inner 2 rings are oval shaped, 110/74 mm BCD, 28/38/48 rings, 170 or 175mm length with bottom bracket BB-XD00, 68/70mm width 

Other: PL-XD00 large square pedals (black/grey), SP-SU00-L seat post (300 mm length, 25.0, 26.4, 26.6, 27.0, 27.2 diameters)

SunTour (Maeda)

SunTour derailleurs have a two-letter date code. On rear derailleurs the code is stamped on the back side of the inner parallel arm. On front derailleurs it is stamped on the back side of the inner cage.

The first letter represents the year. Larry Osborn and I believe O (Oh) is 1972, V is 1979 and A is 1984. As with Shimano, the second letter is the month code, where A is January and L is December.

The earliest Suntour derailleur I have found with a code is marked OF. A rear derailleur marked OD (corresponding to April of 72) was reported by Leighton Walter. I have a bike that dates from between 1970 to 1972 that has the original SunTour derailleurs. These derailleurs do not have date codes on them, so I believe the coding started sometime between 1970 and April of 1972.
