General Information
This would appear to have been a very popular multi-tool, judging by the fact that a good number of them are still available on eBay etc. I've attached a 1930's Raleigh info sheet referring to the tool and others- it doesn't mention re applications for these tools, but what I have found is that its 17mm jaws are very well suited for working on slotted bottom bracket cups, due to the jaw's having a noticeably greater depth than any ordinary 17mm spanners I've come across, so allowing a reliable purchase on the long flats of these BBs. Nowadays, we have a specialised tool just for this purpose (Park Tools seem to make the only one out there), but, after searching for a long time(!), this Raleigh tool would appear to be the only thing resembling a reliable tool for this job, which is strange when considering that the slotted BBs must have been enormously more commonplace in this tool's era (and for many years after) than they are today!
